Realistic Assessment of Getting into William and Mary?

Hey, guys. It's been a goal of mine to attend William and Mary for a while, and as admissions season is approaching, I'm feeling the pressure. How tough is it to actually get accepted there? If anyone has any personal experiences or tips, I'd truly appreciate it.

William and Mary is a selective school, so standing out amongst other applicants can be a bit challenging. Here are some key aspects to consider:

1. Academics: Academically, you'll need to have strong grades and a challenging course load. As of 2024, the average GPA of admitted students is around 4.24, and most successful applicants take a good number of AP/IB or honors courses.

2. SAT/ACT Scores: Although William and Mary went test-optional for the 2024-2025 application cycle, providing a high SAT/ACT score could support your application if you choose to provide them. The middle 50% SAT range for William and Mary is 1330–1500 and the ACT range is 30–34.

3. Extracurricular Involvement: The college values well-roundedness, leadership, and commitment to one's community. Make sure to include all of your extracurricular activities, particularly those that highlight leadership roles or deep involvement.

4. Essays: Your essay can be an opportunity to show your fit with William and Mary's community. Try to make your personality and passions come through.

5. Letters of Recommendation: Strong letters from teachers who can attest to your academic ability and personal qualities can also be helpful.

Ultimately, each applicant's case is unique, and admission can depend on a variety of factors. Best of luck with your application!
