Penn State - what's the average SAT?

Hey! Seriously considering Penn State. Does anyone know what the average SAT score is for students who get in? Help me out, guys!

Penn State's University Park campus, which is the most selective, has an SAT score range for the middle 50% of admitted students between 1230 and 1390. It's worth noting that although they do consider standardized test scores as part of the application, Penn State also places a lot of emphasis on other aspects of your profile, such as your GPA, course rigor, and extracurricular activities.

Moreover, the SAT score would be just one part of your application. So, a good GPA, strong letters of recommendation, and quality extracurricular activities can offset a lower score. For example, admission officers often acknowledge a strong upward grade trend – i.e., if you received lower grades during your freshman year but by junior year you were earning A's and B's, this can help contextualize the academic rigor and growth throughout high school.

To increase your chances at a strong application, consider taking challenging courses and staying involved in a few quality extracurricular activities related to your intended major or career goals. If you have a unique "spike", or a highly-developed specialty, that also tends to stand out in the pool. This might be excellent musical talent, exceptional athletic ability, or other significant achievement or skill.

Lastly, ensure to craft a compelling personal essay. Don't forget to let your unique voice and experiences shine—not who you think admissions officers want you to be. That authenticity can make a meaningful impact on your application.
