Any insight on Columbia's ACT scores?

Hey peeps, I'm really earnest on getting into Columbia (dream school, duh), but my current ACT score worries me. Anyone able to share what the ACT score range for Columbia is like? Should I consider retaking the test if I'm at the lower end?

Columbia University is indeed a highly competitive institution and your ACT score plays a significant role in your application. Typically, admitted students at Columbia have ACT scores in the range of 34 to 35.

It is important to note that this is not a strict cutoff, but rather a general guideline of what admitted students tend to score. However, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, Columbia has decided to remain test-optional. This means that while you still have the option to submit your ACT scores, they are not a required part of your application.

This gives you the flexibility to decide whether or not your ACT score accurately represents your academic potential. If you think your ACT score is at the lower end of Columbia's typical range and does not fully reflect your abilities, it might be beneficial to retake the test. Keep in mind that one's test score sits as only one part of the nuanced lens through which admissions officers analyze an applicant's academic performance. Other elements like the rigor of your coursework, your grades, and your intellectual impact outside the classroom will certainly come to play.

Additionally, work on making other areas of your college application as strong as possible. Your essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular involvement all contribute to your profile as a candidate. For instance, Columbia is particularly interested in students who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, show a passion for their community or society at large, and express a unique perspective.

Remember, a holistic approach to your application will provide you with the best opportunities for admission. Best of luck!
