Hey guys, I'm slightly frazzled cause I'm about to take the ACT soon and I'm not entirely certain about the calculator policy. Can anyone enlighten me on which calculators are allowed for the ACT? I've got a TI-84 Plus, is this one going to be okay?
Don't worry, your TI-84 Plus is safe to use. In fact, all models of the Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus series enjoy acceptance from the ACT. However, avoid bringing a calculator with built-in or downloaded computer algebra system functionality.
As a rule of thumb, calculators with QWERTY keyboards or those requiring a power cord, like your laptop or your phone's calculator, are not allowed. Also, the ACT doesn't allow models that have a built-in functionality to simplify algebraic expressions, derive or integrate functions, or perform operations with programmable models, among other things.
So, with your TI-84 Plus, you're well within the ACT's guidelines. Make sure to use it to its full potential. Familiarize yourself with its functions, and practice using it on ACT-style questions. You don't want to be figuring out how to use it for certain calculations on test day. Good luck with your exam!
