Experience with Boston University Summer Challenge

Hey everyone, has any of y'all had any experience with the Boston University Summer Challenge program? I'm a junior considering applying to it for this summer. Is it worth it? What was your experience and how did it help you?

Responding as a private admissions counselor:

The Boston University Summer Challenge program can be a great way to explore a subject area you're interested in and get a feel for college life at Boston University. It offers a wide variety of courses ranging from journalism and medicine to engineering and visual arts.

One of the main benefits of attending this program is having the opportunity to delve into two subjects of your choice, at a fairly high level. You'll gain valuable information about those fields, have the chance to engage with Boston University faculty, and collaborate with like-minded peers from around the globe.

However, do keep in mind that attending expensive summer programs may not necessarily give your college application a significant boost, as universities like to see perseverance and long-term dedication in a field, rather than a single summer's participation. Though such programs can definitely provide you with an enlightening experience and valuable skills, a commitment to pursuits that you’re truly passionate about tends to resonate more with admissions officers.

On the other hand, if you're looking to explore potential fields of study or university life, this program can be beneficial. The workshops and hands-on experiences you gain there can help you solidify your interests and make more informed decisions about your future college major or career. Plus, you'll get a taste of life and culture at a vibrant campus like Boston University's, which is in itself immensely valuable.

Overall, if you have the resources and the interest, I'd definitely recommend applying. Just make sure to fully commit to the experience and take away as much as you can from it.
