How does weighted GPA work for AP classes?

Kinda confused about how ap classes affect your gpa – like how much does an A in an AP class weigh compared to an A in a non-AP class? Anyone?

Weighted GPAs offer extra points for more difficult coursework. When it comes to AP classes, they are usually weighted higher than regular classes because of the increased rigor and workload.

Here's a basic example of what it might look like:

On a typical 4.0 scale, an A in a non-AP class would translate to 4.0. In a weighted system, an A in an AP class could translate to a 5.0. In other words, if two students both received an A in a class, but one student took the class as an AP course, that student's GPA would be positively impacted more than the student who took a regular or honors version of the class.

However, the way AP classes are weighted can vary from school to school. Some schools may not use a 5.0 scale and might instead add a smaller boost to your GPA for AP classes. For some high schools, an A in an AP class could be equivalent to 4.5 rather than 5.0.

Keep in mind, the specifics of how AP classes are weighted and how they impact your GPA can be complex, so it might be beneficial to speak directly with your school counselor for a more precise explanation based on your school's grading policies.
