What's the average for SAT scores?

Hey all, I'm studying for my SATs and I'm not sure what kind of score I should be aiming for. What's the average SAT score these days? Knowing this could make my studying a lot more focused.

The SAT scoring system is set on a scale of 400-1600, with 400 being the lowest possible score and 1600 being the perfect score.

The average scores for the SAT vary each year, but as of recent years, the average score tends to hover around 1050-1060. Specifically, the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section has an average score of about 528, and the Math section has an average score of about 522.

It's important to keep in mind though that your target score should not necessarily be the average score. Your target score should be aligned with your college goals. If you're aiming for more selective colleges, you would likely need a score well above the national average. I recommend researching the score ranges for admitted students at the colleges you're interested in to get a sense of where your score might need to be.

Remember also to balance your SAT prep with your academic work and your extracurricular involvement, as those are also key pieces of your college application. Best of luck with your SAT preparation!
