Coast Guard Academy Requirements

What's up everyone, I'm seriously considering applying to the Coast Guard Academy next year, but I'm not quite sure what the requirements are. Does anyone know the details or any added requirements beyond standard college apps?

Hey there! It's great that you're considering the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The process of applying to a service academy is generally more involved than it is for traditional four-year colleges or universities.

Firstly, you should know that there are no Congressional nominations needed for the Coast Guard Academy, which is different from the other service academies. This makes the process a bit less complex.

For your application, you’ll need to:

1. Fill out an online application: This includes your academic, extracurricular, and personal information, and typically requires essays.

2. Provide your high school transcript: You need to have your high school send in a copy of your transcript.

3. Submit standardized test scores: SAT or ACT scores are required.

4. Medical examination: Just like the other military academies, they require a thorough medical examination via DoDMERB (Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board).

5. Physical fitness exam: Applicants must complete the Candidate Fitness Assessment, a six-event physical fitness test used to assess your physical potential for the military service.

6. Letters of recommendation: They require recommendations from math and English teachers, as well as a third from an adult who has known you in a leadership or supervisor capacity.

7. An interview: The interview is conducted by an Admissions Officer, and usually happens at the Academy or at one of the Academy's Admissions Partner Programs.

Also, keep in mind that applicants must be U.S. citizens, between 17 and 22 years old, have no family dependents, and be unmarried.

Really hope this helps, and best of luck with your application!
