SAT writing: What rules should I particularly remember?

Aight guys. I'm reviewing for the SAT and I'm focusing on the writing section right now. What rules should I particularly drill into my head? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I recommend focusing on improving your understanding of grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure rules as these topics tend to be heavily tested in the SAT writing section. Here are some key areas to focus on:

1. Subject-Verb Agreement: This means making sure that the verb in a sentence agrees with the subject in number and person.

2. Use of Commas and Punctuation: Understanding when to use different forms of punctuation, particularly commas, is important. Remember that commas should be used to separate independent clauses when they're joined with a coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) and to set off nonessential phrases or clauses.

3. Pronoun Agreement: Pronouns must agree with the antecedent they are replacing in number and gender.

4. Verb Tenses: Make sure verbs are consistent in tense throughout the sentence or paragraph.

5. Sentence Structure: You should be able to identify fragments and run-ons, as well as the correct use of parallel structure.

6. Check for modifier placement—ensure that modifiers are placed next to the words they modify to avoid creating a sentence that is grammatically correct but nonsensical.

7. Wordiness and Redundancy: The SAT often tests your ability to make sentences more concise. If an idea has been stated, it is incorrect to state it again in different words.

With the SAT's digital transition in Spring 2024, you'll be able to enhance your review with the help of resources such as the Bluebook™ app, which provides an opportunity to take a full-length practice test and familiarize yourself with the structure of the test. Practice is the key to mastering these rules, so take advantage of as many practice questions and tests as you can.
