Ideal TOEFL score?

Hi all, I'm an international student who will need to take the TOEFL. I've been studying, but I'm not sure what score I should be shooting for. What is considered a good score on the TOEFL?

While the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores range from 0 to 120, what qualifies as a 'good' score largely depends on the requirements of the educational institutions you're applying to.

Most universities consider a total score of 80 or above out of 120 to be acceptable. However, for highly competitive programs or universities, you might aim for a score of 100 or above.

Keep in mind that each of the four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) is scored out of 30 and different institutions might have minimum score requirements for each section, not just the overall score.

Therefore, your goal should be to perform well across all sections, not just overall. As you're studying for the test, try to strengthen your skills in each of these areas evenly, instead of focusing too heavily on just one or two sections.

One more thing to remember is that TOEFL is just one component of the application process and while a high score can strengthen your application, universities also consider many other factors, such as your academic performance, extracurricular activities, and essays. The TOEFL requirement is primarily to confirm that you have sufficient proficiency in English to understand the coursework and contribute to class discussions.

Good luck with your studies!
