SAT Score Cut-offs for UH?

Sup guys, your friendly neighborhood high school junior here. I'm thinking about applying to the University of Houston and I've been trying to get a grip on the SAT requirements. Anyone knows the rough SAT score cut-off for UH? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! While the University of Houston (UH) doesn't have a strict SAT score cut-off per se, their middle 50% scores for accepted students can give you a good idea of what they're looking for. For the most recent applications cycle, that range fell between 1160 and 1320, so having a score around there would boost your chances of acceptance.

However, keep in mind that the SAT score isn't the only criteria for admission. Your GPA, curriculum rigor, and extracurricular activities also play a significant role. So even if you find your scores slightly lower than this range, having notable strengths elsewhere could potentially compensate for that.

If you want to know how your application as a whole stacks up at UH, I'd check out CollegeVine's free chancing engine, which accounts for all quantifiable elements of your application, including not just test scores but also GPA, course rigor, and extracurriculars to give you personalized odds of acceptance at UH and hundreds of other colleges: https://www.collegevine.com/admissions-calculator

This tool will also give you suggestions on how to improve your chances, whether by raising your SAT score slightly or some other step, like earning a leadership position in one of your extracurriculars.

Finally, it's worth noting that UH is officially test-optional, so you actually are not required to submit an SAT (or ACT) score. However, you're smart to still be thinking about target SAT scores, as there can still be instances where including a standardized test score with your application can be a good idea.
