Odds of getting into the Naval Academy

Guys, am I setting myself up for disappointment by trying to get into the Naval Academy? I mean, I think I've got a pretty decent profile, but I hear it's really really hard. Does anyone know just how difficult it is?

Getting admitted to the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis is certainly not easy, but it also remains far from impossible, especially with a strong profile.

Let's start with numbers. The USNA generally boasts an acceptance rate of around 8-9%. This means that for every 100 applicants, about 8-9 get accepted. In comparison, this is more selective than most universities, but less selective than Ivy League schools and the like.

Extracurriculars play a significant role in admissions. They're looking for individuals who have shown exemplary leadership potential, discipline, and resilience - qualities that align with the Naval service. This translates into Tier 1 or Tier 2 extracurriculars related to community service, athletics, or leadership that show your dedication and long term commitment to a field.

Apart from grades and test scores, candidates must also pass a medical exam, a fitness assessment, and secure a nomination, often from a member of Congress. Remember, when we talk about the Naval Academy we are not just talking about an educational institution but also a military one.
