Guidance on the SAT English Section

Has anyone got any helpful tips about the SAT English section? I've been practising a lot, but those reading passages still seem like a challenge. What's the best way to navigate these questions?

Understanding the structure and content of the SAT English section is fundamental. In this new digital format, the English section consists of two 32-minute modules, with a total of 54 questions.

Here are some general strategies that could be beneficial for you:

1. Understand the Passage: Skim through the passage first to understand the main point and the author's tone. This will help you answer the overall questions more effectively.

2. Content Context: Each text is often paired with several questions. Answer the ones related to the main idea or author's purpose first, since understanding the broader context can often help you to answer the individual detail-based questions.

3. Closer Look: For vocabulary-in-context questions, don't just focus on the sentence that contains the word. Read the sentences before and after it to understand the context.

4. Elimination Method: Due to the multiple-choice nature of the test, sometimes it can be easier to eliminate the wrong answers rather than find the correct one. Use the process of elimination when you're stuck.

5. Time Management: Remember, you have about 71 seconds per question. But it's okay not to spend an equal amount of time on each one. Spend less time on easier questions to save time for more challenging ones.

6. Practice Tests: Make use of the Bluebook™ app, which allows you to preview the digital SAT and take full-length practice tests. This can help you get used to the format and timing of the real test.

I hope these guidelines can assist you in scaling through the SAT English section! Happy studying!
