SAT Reading Test Tactics

Hey fam, so I was sitting around stressing about the SAT reading section. Does anyone have any strategies or tips to help improve my score on this part of the exam? I've been practicing and practicing, but it feels like I'm missing something. Appreciate any advice.

Firstly, it's good that you're practicing; regular practice is often key to improvement. Here are some strategies that might help make the most of your preparation.

Start by skimming the questions before reading the passage—it can give you a context to focus on as you read, and highlight important points to remember. However, don't spend much time on the questions; a quick glance will usually be enough.

Next, break the passage down into smaller chunks. This way you can ensure you understand each part before moving on to the next. Try summarizing each paragraph in your own words as you go along to ensure that you properly comprehend it. Many of the questions are detail-oriented, so being able to refer back to your own notes can be a real timesaver.

Finally, be sure to take advantage of process of elimination. Even if you're unsure of the correct answer, you can often cross out options that you know are definitely wrong. This can increase your chances of selecting the correct answer.

In terms of prep materials, I'd recommend utilizing the Bluebook™ app. It allows you to preview the digital SAT format so you can get a feel for it before exam day. Remember, the Reading and Writing components of the digital SAT are organized into two 32-minute modules, in which you need to complete 54 questions. This means you will have roughly 71 seconds per question. By practicing within this time structure, it can increase the efficiency of your prep.

Stay persistent and keep practicing, and you'll surely see improvement over time. Best of luck!
