Interpreting PSAT scores?

Hello everyone, I took the PSAT a while back but I'm not sure how to interpret my score. I know it's not the same scale as the SAT. What's considered a good score? Also, does anyone know how I can use this to gauge how well I might do on the actual SAT? Thanks in advance!

Sure, happy to help! The PSAT scores range from 320 to 1520, which is different from the SAT's 400-1600 scale. Typically, a PSAT score in the 90th percentile and above (which roughly equates to a score of 1200 and above) is considered high-performing and might be competitive for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

To further interpret your PSAT scores, you can use the 'Your Question Level Feedback' section in your score report. This section provides insights into which types of questions you answered incorrectly so you know what areas to focus on when preparing for the SAT.

As for how your PSAT scores connect to your potential SAT performance, it's not a 1-to-1 conversion, but it's relatively close. Your PSAT scores can be a good indicator of how you might perform on the SAT, given similar test conditions and without significant extra preparation. For example, an 1150 on the PSAT equates to approximately an 1180 on the SAT.

That being said, it's important to remember that performing well on the SAT usually requires targeted study and preparation beyond what's needed for the PSAT. Consider using resources like SAT prep guides or online resources to help you prepare.

Lastly, I'd recommend practicing with the new digital SAT format (from spring 2024) using the Bluebook™ app, which allows you to preview the digital SAT and take a full-length practice test. It's a useful way to get accustomed to the new format before the actual test day.
