To whoever took the SAT: Around what time does the exam usually take place? Just trying to mentally prep for my upcoming SAT test.
The SAT starts at 8:00 am sharp at most testing centers. So, the latest you should arrive is around 7:45 am to allow yourself some time to settle in. However, it's generally advisable to arrive even earlier to ensure you're not rushed, have time to find your testing room, and can comfortably get situated. Once everyone is settled, instructions are given and you're allowed to start the exam.
The testing time, including instructions and breaks, is usually around four hours. But it's essential to remember that this can vary depending on how long it takes for everyone to get settled and for instructions to be given out. All students take the Reading and Writing sections first before moving on to the Math sections.
You can expect to be finished around 12 pm or 1 pm. It could be earlier or later depending on how many people are taking the test at your location, as that impacts how long the logistics take.
On a separate note, if you want tips on how to ensure you do as well as possible on the SAT on the big day, I'd check out CollegeVine's series of free blog posts focused on SAT prep: https://blog.collegevine.com/category/standardized-tests/sat/
