Searching for colleges for writing majors

Hello everyone, I'm an aspiring writer and trying to find the best college for me. Any suggestions for schools with particularly good programs for writing majors? Ideally those that nurture creativity and offer opportunities for publishing work.

Certainly! If you're interested in fiction, poetry, or creative writing in general, there are quite a few top-tier programs to consider.

Firstly, the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa is arguably the most renowned writing program in the country. It's particularly distinguished in the field of creative writing and has a history of producing Pulitzer Prize winners. Small workshop classes led by recognized authors foster creativity and hands-on learning. Additionally, the UI Press provides publishing opportunities.

Kenyon College in Ohio is another institution with a strong creative writing program. Novelist John Green, for instance, is an alumnus. Kenyon hosts the Kenyon Review, one of the country's prestigious literary magazines providing students with unique opportunities to be published.

Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) is renowned for its undergraduate programs in writing and literature. Their "Writing 1" first-year course is recognized nationally for its commitment to teaching writing.

Oberlin College offers a Creative Writing major with a wide diversity of writing forms from poetry to playwriting. They also have a robust visiting writers series that brings various accomplished writers to campus for readings and workshops. Students may apply for the chance to work one-on-one with these visiting writers.

Looking at the west coast, the University of California, Irvine's Programs in Writing offer a multifaceted approach to literary arts. They offer creative writing and critical theory, and many students get published via the UCI-run literary journal "Faultline".

Each of these schools is renowned for their writing/creative writing programs, so any aspiring writer such as yourself should be thrilled to be a part of any one of these excellent programs. Do your further research to understand the vibes and values of each school beyond just their excellent writing programs, to ensure you would feel comfortable and happy on their campuses. Good luck!
