Does anyone know what's included in the AP Computer Science Principles exam?

Coding wizards, I need your help! I've been prepping for the AP Computer Science Principles exam, but I don't have a clear picture of what topics will be on the test. Does it go deep into programming languages, or is it more about general concepts? Also, is the Create Performance Task tough?

Hey there! I'm glad to see you're getting ready for your AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) exam. To give you a clearer picture of what to expect, the exam covers a variety of topics such as digital information, the Internet, big data and privacy, and global impacts of computing. You'll also explore programming concepts, but you don't need to deeply understand any one programming language. Instead, the focus is on understanding the logic and processes involved in writing code.

Regarding the Create Performance Task, it's a chance to demonstrate your creativity and ability to apply the concepts you've learned. You'll develop a program of your choice, document your process, and explain how your program functions. Some students do find it more challenging than the rest of the exam since it requires careful brainstorming, and then clear communication of the ideas you come up with. But with your enthusiasm, I'm confident you'll do well!

For an added tip, make sure you're familiar with the Explore Performance Task as well. It involves research and analysis of a computing innovation, including its beneficial and harmful effects. I suggest starting both tasks early to give yourself plenty of time to revise and perfect your submissions. And if you haven't done so already, be sure to review the College Board's AP Digital Portfolio student guide for detailed instructions on submitting your performance tasks. Good luck, you've got this!
