Improving your SAT Reading score really hinges on honing your skills in critical reading and time management. This is because you'll need to read through the passages efficiently, understanding the main points and answering the questions within an average of about 71 seconds per question. Here are a few strategies you might find beneficial:

- Practice Active Reading: Active reading involves not just reading the words, but really thinking about their meaning as you go. This can involve summarizing paragraphs in your own words as you read, underlining or noting key points, and predicting what might come next.

- Identify Passage Purposes: Each passage you encounter on the SAT Reading section has a main idea or purpose. By identifying this purpose, you can better understand how the details connect and support that main point.

- Learn to Skim: Some of the passages in this section can be quite long. Learning how to skim effectively—picking out crucial words and sentences without reading every word—is a priceless tool. However, don't overdo it, as omitting important details can cost you the correct answer.

- Vocabulary in Context: While the SAT doesn't test vocabulary as directly as it used to, understanding challenging or unusual word usages can still help you understand the passages and answer questions correctly. When you encounter a word you aren't familiar with, try to figure out its meaning in context before looking up the definition.

- Take Practice Tests: Regularly taking full-length practice tests can help you get a feel for the test format and timing. This practice will also give you valuable feedback on your performance and help you identify areas of weakness to focus on.

Remember, consistency and persistence are key to improving your scores. Keep practicing and don't get too discouraged by any setbacks you encounter along the way. Reading improvement takes time but with determination and methodical practice, you can definitely improve! Good luck.
