Glasses and Military Enlistment?

Really could do with some insight here, y’all… If I wear glasses, can I still qualify to join the military after high school? Are there strict vision requirements that I should be aware of? Any info would be mega helpful, thanks, guys!

Absolutely, individuals who wear glasses can still enlist in the military! The military has specific vision requirements for enlistment, but these usually pertain to uncorrected vision rather than the need for corrective eyewear. Generally, with glasses or contact lenses, your vision must be correctable to 20/20.

The specific requirements can vary by branch and specialty, however. For instance, if you're interested in roles that might require perfect vision, such as a pilot or in special operations, the requirements might be stricter. Certain roles might also require a comprehensive eye exam to identify other potential issues, like color blindness or depth perception problems.

It's worth noting that laser eye surgery can often be a solution for eyesight problems that might inhibit certain roles, although some branches require a waiting period post-surgery before you’re allowed to enlist. Additionally, the military often provides services such as PRK or LASIK for enlisted service members.

I recommend speaking with your local recruitment office for the most accurate, up-to-date information about vision requirements for the specific branch you're interested in. They can provide guidance tailored to your situation.
