Is it worth joining the military right after high school?

I'm a bit puzzled here. I'm a junior, and some friends of mine are thinking of straight up enlisting after graduation. I'm wondering, is this a good idea? What are the advantages and disadvantages you guys see in joining the military right out of high school?
