Thinking about enlisting after graduation—any advice?

Hey y'all, I'm a junior seriously considering the military after high school. I really wanna serve but don't exactly know where to start. How does someone go about joining the military after they graduate? Any advice is appreciated!

Your interest in serving through the military is admirable. There are a few steps you can take to prepare yourself.

First, do some research to gain a broad understanding of what life in the military is like. Read about the different branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), their respective missions, roles, and the type of jobs (or Military Occupation Specialties) they offer. This will help you determine which branch aligns best with your interests and aspirations.

Second, focus on your physical fitness, as there will be a fitness examination during the enlistment process. The specifics of this exam differ by branch, but common elements include running, sit-ups, and push-ups. Regular exercise can help you prepare for this.

Third, consider taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test during your senior year. This test helps determine your vocational aptitudes and can affect what specialties you can choose from once in the military. Your school may offer this test, or you can schedule it at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).

Lastly, you should connect with a military recruiter who could provide more specific information based on your interests and eligibility. They can explain the enlistment process, training, benefits, and commitment required in detail.

Throughout this decision-making process, it's important to factor in your long-term career goals, as well. Military service can provide valuable skills and experiences, butthink about how these will translate to your post-service plans. Remember, serving in the military is a significant commitment and it's important you make an informed decision. Good luck!
