Is there any benefit to joining the military with a business degree?

Hey all, I'm going to be starting my junior year soon, considering business as my major and then looking into enlisting. I was just curious if there's any added advantage or benefit to joining the military with a Business degree. Do they offer anything special for this discipline? Would love to hear your insights.

Yes, there are several benefits to joining the military with a business degree. Firstly, the skills you acquire as a business graduate—such as leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making—will likely serve you well in a military environment. The military often looks for and values these kinds of transferrable skills.

Secondly, there are certain positions within the military that may specifically require or prefer candidates with a business educational background. These include roles related to logistics, finance, supply chain management, and human resources. So a business degree could potentially open up a wider range of job opportunities within the military.

In some cases, having a degree may also provide an opportunity to enter the military at a higher rank. Many branches of the military have officer candidate programs, where individuals with a bachelor's degree can potentially enter as an officer following completion of training.

In terms of specific benefits, while the military does not typically offer special benefits or incentives based solely on your degree, they do have extensive educational benefits for all servicemembers. You could potentially pursue further education (like an MBA) while serving, and the military may cover some or all of the cost. These benefits are typically provided under the Post-9/11 GI Bill or the Tuition Assistance program.

Lastly, a business degree is beneficial for your career post-service. Many veterans transition into business roles after serving, due to how well the skills you learn in the military translate to the corporate world, and having both a business degree and military service under your belt would likely make you a more competitive candidate in the job market.

Remember that the specifics can vary greatly depending on the branch of the military and the specific job role, so you should definitely reach out to a military recruiter or do further research to gather more information tailored to your individual situation. You could also consider reaching out to the business schools at the colleges you're looking at, to see if they've had students follow this path in the past.

Good luck with your future endeavors!
