What qualifications are generally needed for joining the military?

Good day everyone, I've been pondering about joining the military after my high school journey. Apart from the obvious age and citizenship, what are other qualifications I'd need? Any specific tests or trainings? An earnest appeal for any knowledgeable insights.

The military enlistment requirements can vary depending on the branch you are interested in joining (such as Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard), but there are several common requirements across the board:

1. Physical Fitness: To join the military, you must meet certain physical fitness and medical standards. Each branch has a fitness test that usually involved running a certain distance, doing push-ups, sit-ups, and possibly pull-ups. You'll also need to pass a military entrance medical exam, called the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) exam, to ensure you are physically able to perform military duties.

2. Academic Requirements: You must have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate at minimum. Some branches may have higher education requirements for certain positions.

3. ASVAB Test: The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a required test for anyone enlisting in the U.S military. The test assesses your abilities and helps to identify potential jobs within the military that you may be suitable for. The minimum score you need on the ASVAB varies between branches.

4. Legal Requirements: You will need to pass a thorough background check. A criminal history might not necessarily disqualify you from military service but it does depend on the nature and frequency of crimes committed.

5. Moral Character: The military also considers your character during the enlistment process. They may conduct interviews with people who know you well, such as past employers or teachers.

Lastly, while initially not a requirement, be prepared to complete Basic Combat Training (also known as boot camp) upon entering the military. This weeks-long program is designed to transition a civilian into a soldier.

Remember, individual branches may have additional or divergent requirements, so it may be a good idea to research the specific branch you're interested in, or consult with a recruiter for the most accurate information.
