Entry Requirements for the Military?

Hope everyone's doing well! I've been considering joining the military, however, I'm curious about the entry criteria. Particularly, is having a high school diploma mandatory? Or do different branches have different rules about this?

Each branch of the U.S. military has different entry requirements, although there are some common prerequisites across the board. Here are some of the basic guidelines you might want to consider:

1. Age Requirements: For most branches, the minimum age to enlist is 17 (with parental consent) and the maximum age is usually from 27-35, depending upon the branch.

2. Education Requirements: All branches require a high school diploma or GED. However, preference is almost always given to recruits with a high school diploma. That being said, there are instances where some branches may accept a small number of recruits with a GED, but ideally, having a high school diploma is seen as a plus.

3. Physical Requirements: There are physical fitness and medical standards that you must meet to enlist and stay enlisted. You'll need to pass a physical examination, sometimes referred to as the military entrance processing station (MEPS).

4. Legal Requirements: Recruits should generally have no major criminal convictions. Minor offenses may be waived, but this varies from branch to branch.

5. Citizenship: U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required for enlistment.

Bear in mind that each branch (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard) does have its own specific requirements and standards. It's always a good idea to connect with a recruiter from the specific branch you're interested in for more tailored advice. They will be able to provide the most current and detailed information. Good luck with your decision!
