Online High School Grad, considering Military

Hey all, I've been doing high school online and I'm seriously thinking about joining the military after this. Anyone else in a similar situation or have any advice on this? Thank you!

Hello, it's always a significant decision to consider joining the military after high school, and it's great you're reaching out for perspectives. Many individuals opt for this path for various reasons, including the desire to serve their country, acquire professional skills, earn financial aid for future education, or take time to solidify their long-term career plans.

It's important to remember that the military offers a broad range of opportunities, not just combat positions. Areas like logistics, technology, healthcare, and more are integral to the services. Doing some research on the different military roles, their needed skills, and advancement opportunities can be useful. It might help you figure out if there are roles that align well with your interests or future career goals.

As online schooling has likely equipped you with some key skills such as self-discipline, time management, and self-motivation, these could be advantageous in a military environment.

Furthermore, take some time to talk to military recruiters from different branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard). They can provide detailed information about what to expect, basic training, enlistment process, and benefits. However, be aware that recruiters have a job to do and may present their particular branch in the best light, so it's beneficial to get multiple viewpoints.

Also, consider speaking with veterans or current members of the military. They can give you a firsthand account of what military life is really like, both the good and the challenges.

Remember, joining the military is a big commitment and decision, so take your time to weigh the pros and cons associated with it. If you're not certain about it, there's always the option to enroll in a Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program or attend college first and consider a military career later. Regardless, any path you choose will be a learning experience. Good luck!
