Cost of Attending University of Scranton?

I'm hoping to major in health sciences and the University of Scranton seems like a pretty good fit. But before I get all excited, I need to know about the cost. Can anyone share what it feels like financially to be a student there? Much appreciation.

The University of Scranton in Pennsylvania is a private institution, and therefore, the tuition and fees are the same for both in-state and out-of-state students. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the estimated cost of tuition was around $51,534.

This cost does not include room and board and other expenses such as books, materials, and personal expenses. If you are planning to live on-campus, you should expect to add around $16,918 to your budget for housing and food. For books and materials, you can usually consider an additional expense of around $1,000 to $1,500. Interesting to note, University of Scranton does have an unlimited meal plan option for residential students, which can help keep your food costs predictable.

It's also prudent to add a buffer for miscellaneous and personal expenses - think clothing, entertainment, trips home, etc. This can vary wildly depending on personal choices, but a reasonable expectation would be between $1,000-$2,000 per year.

On the other hand, approximately 99% of full-time undergraduate students at University of Scranton receive some kind of need-based or merit-based aid. The average scholarship or grant aid provided is about $30,218 per year. So the sticker price might not be the number that applies to you.

It's key to remember that these are estimates and your personal cost could be higher or lower depending on various factors. To get the most accurate estimate for your situation, I strongly suggest checking out University of Scranton's Net Price Calculator on their website, which takes into consideration your family's financial situation and other factors to estimate your true cost of attendance.

Paying for college is a substantial investment, but don't let the sticker price deter you immediately. There are always options like grants, scholarships, work-study, and student loans to help manage the cost.
