Majors at University of Delaware

Hey, junior in high school here. Anyone know what majors UD offers? I'm pretty pumped about Environmental Science and Policy Studies. Does UD have a good program for these areas?

The University of Delaware (UD) indeed offers a variety of majors that cater to different interests and career fields. They are well-known for their programs across disciplines, ranging from business to engineering to the humanities and natural sciences.

You're in luck because UD does offer a significant program in Environmental Science. Students in this program are exposed to an interdisciplinary curriculum, which gives them a thorough understanding of critical environmental issues today. The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences and the Department of Geography and Spatial Sciences oversee this program, allowing students the chance to understand environmental issues from multiple perspectives.

As for Policy Studies, UD offers a major in Public Policy. This program, housed in the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, focuses on real-world problems through a multidisciplinary approach. The curriculum draws from political science, economics, behavioral science, and more. Thus, the program can give you a well-rounded understanding of policy-making and implementation.

To further align your education with your interest, you could also explore the university's options for minors or double majors to make the most out of both disciplines.

Remember, while these programs provide the academic framework, it's often the student's initiative in seeking out internships, research opportunities, and co-curricular activities that truly enriches the undergraduate experience. Explore the relationships UD has with the local community, environmental bodies or other organizations, and see how that aligns with your goals.

Remember, it can also be beneficial to reach out directly to the department, attend a virtual information session, or connect with current students to gain a more personalized and in-depth understanding of these programs.
