Fellow students, what are your inputs on UW Madison's cost of attendance?

So, UW Madison is one of my top choices but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the cost of attendance. Anyone know the current ballpark range and if it's generally manageable with financial aid and scholarships? I am an in-state student, if that helps. And if any current students or alumni out there could also shed light on their experiences, that would be incredibly helpful!

Hello! Understanding the cost of college can certainly be overwhelming, but breaking it down can make it more manageable. For the 2024-2025 academic year, UW Madison's estimated in-state cost of attendance is about $30,000. This estimate includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, personal expenses, and transportation.

The financial aid at UW Madison can significantly reduce this cost. Nearly half of undergraduate students receive need-based aid with an average award of about $13,500. This number varies depending on each student's financial situation, as aid is awarded on an individual basis.

Additionally, there are merit and need-based scholarships available that you can apply to, which can further reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. It's worth noting that these scholarships are competitive and typically require separate applications, so starting your search early and applying widely would be beneficial.

It's always a good idea to check with the college's financial aid office or use their net price calculator for a more personalized estimate based on your family's financial situation. This tool would give you a more accurate idea of how much you'd be expected to pay after considering grants and scholarships.

As for personal experiences, many students find the cost manageable with the aid and scholarships, though everyone's circumstances will differ. Some students work part-time jobs or internships during school or over the summers to further offset costs.

I hope this helps and best of luck in your college journey!
