What's the Cost of Tulane?

I love a lot of things about Tulane University and its culture, but man I’m a little scared about the cost. Anyone have a clear picture of their out-of-state tuition situation?

Tuition and fees at Tulane University are indeed on the higher side, which is something lots of potential students grapple with. For the 2024-25 academic year, the base tuition for undergraduate students, whether in-state or out-of-state, is $69,000. Keep in mind that tuition tends to increase slightly each year.

In addition to tuition, you should also factor in room and board, which is approximately $15,500 per year. You'll also want to budget for books, supplies, personal expenses, and incidentals, which can add around another $3,000 or so.

However, it's crucial to remember that these figures represent the sticker price - the tuition and fees before any sort of financial aid or scholarships are applied. It's not uncommon for students to pay significantly less than the sticker price, depending on their financial need and/or academic merit.

Tulane University is quite generous when it comes to giving scholarships. Around 75% of undergraduates receive some form of aid in the form of grants and scholarships. You should also definitely complete the FAFSA to be considered for any need-based aid, and try to apply by their priority filing date.

Every situation is different, and understanding how much you'll actually pay requires a more personalized analysis. That's why I'd recommend using Tulane's Net Price Calculator. It's a resource that can give you an estimate of the aid you might receive and what your out-of-pocket costs could be, based on your family's financial situation. It's not a guarantee, but it can provide a more accurate picture to help you make an informed decision.
