GED vs High School Diploma for Enlistment

Hi guys, unclear about something here. I'm exploring the possibility of enlisting in the military after high school, but does anyone have knowledge about whether a GED or a high school diploma is better regarded by the military? I've heard mixed things about this. Any insights would be helpful.

From what I've seen, both a GED and a high school diploma are generally acceptable for military enlistment, though a high school diploma is usually preferred. This is because the military uses various metrics to determine the "quality" of its recruits, and one of these is education level. Recruits with a high school diploma tend to have a higher success rate in completing initial military training and their first term of service.

Due to the competitive nature of military enlistment and the preference for high school diplomas, those with a high school diploma generally have an easier time enlisting than those with a GED. In fact, each branch of the military limits the percentage of recruits each year who can enlist with a GED. That being said, if you already have or are considering getting a GED instead of a high school diploma, don't let this dissuade you—people with GEDs do enlist and serve in the military.

One potential pathway for individuals with a GED interested in the military is to earn some college credits. Many branches of the military allow people with a GED and at least 15 college credits to enlist under the same criteria as those with a high school diploma.

In all cases, it's crucial to speak with a recruiter or career counselor to fully understand the best pathway for your personal circumstances. They can provide the most up-to-date information. Military requirements change over time and can vary from branch to branch.
