College or Military: What are the routes after Military High School?

Hey everyone, just uma quick question. Currently, I'm studying at a military high school and I'm unsure about what to do next. I was thinking about the military as a career, but I'm not completely sure. What are the potential military careers after high school? And if later down the line I decide that isn't my path, are colleges okay with such a background?

There are several routes you can take after graduating from a military high school. If you're considering a career in the military, you could enlist directly after high school. This would involve going through a process that includes meeting with a recruiter, taking the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), and completing physical and medical screenings. In the military, you'd have opportunities for professional growth and skills training in a diverse range of fields, depending on which branch you join.

Alternatively, you could consider applying to one of the service academies such as the US Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy or Merchant Marine Academy. These universities provide a top-notch education and leadership training, all while preparing you for a career as an officer in the US Armed Forces.

If you're considering higher education outside of the military, remember that colleges appreciate diversity in their student body, and that includes a variety of experiences and backgrounds. Your military high school experience could very well make your application stand out. Many colleges value the discipline, teamwork, leadership, and unique perspective that students from military backgrounds can bring. So, it likely won't be a barrier in your application, but rather something that adds to your application.

Also, if you're worried about transition from a military high school to a traditional college, there are many resources and support groups available for military-connected students at various universities that can help with the transition and provide support throughout your college career.

Furthermore, even if you decide to join the military out of high school, you may have opportunities to complete your education while serving, or afterwards, thanks to programs like the GI Bill.

The final decision, of course, depends heavily on your personal interests, goals, and circumstances. It might be helpful to reach out to your school counselor, or individuals who have taken the paths you're considering, to gain more perspective. Good luck as you navigate this exciting stage of your life!
