Military High Schools in LA - Worth it?

Hey all, I'm a junior from Los Angeles and considering my options post-high school. Military high schools have been on my mind a lot but it's a little overwhelming. Anyone know about prestigious military high schools in Los Angeles?

Military high schools can indeed provide a unique and structured environment that emphasizes discipline, leadership, and honor. However, it's important to also consider your personal interests, aptitudes, and long-term goals when evaluating the fit.

Historically, there haven't been many military high schools in Los Angeles. Sunburst Youth Academy, located in Los Alamitos just outside of LA, is a military-style academy operated by the National Guard and targets students who have dropped out or are at-risk of dropping out. However, it might not fit your description of "prestigious."

Additionally, you may also want to consider military boarding schools outside of Los Angeles. One such example is the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California. This military school is known for a leadership-focused curriculum and a distinguished JROTC program.

Remember, each military high school has its unique culture, traditions, and curriculum. While they all teach discipline, leadership, and honor, the learning environment can vary greatly. It's advisable to visit the schools if possible, talk to current students or alumni, and understand the school's curriculum, values, and culture.

Finally, remember that there are many paths to a military career if that's your ultimate goal. You can consider joining Junior ROTC (JROTC) in a traditional high school, attend a civilian college and participate in ROTC, apply to one of the nation's five military service academies, or serve in the military after pursuing your civilian education. It's all about finding the best fit for your personal and professional goals.

Good luck in your search and decision-making process!
