How to calculate GPA for UIowa?

Heyo peeps! Has anyone figured out how to calculate GPA for University of Iowa? Is there like a specific calculator for it, or do you have to use a universal one? Appreciate any help!

Hello! For the University of Iowa (UIowa), your GPA is calculated based on a 4.0 scale, with regular classes ranging from an A (4.0) to an F (0.0), and honors/AP/IB courses getting an additional one point (up to a 5.0 for an A).

To calculate your GPA, you can follow a simple process:

1. Assign each of your classes a numeric score. Use 4 for an A in a regular class, 5 for an A in an AP/IB/honors course, and so on.

2. Sum up the total numeric score for all of your classes.

3. Divide this sum by the total number of classes.

This will give you your GPA. For example, if you've taken 6 regular classes and received an A in each, your GPA will be (64)/6 = 4.0. If you've taken 3 regular classes and received an A in each, and 3 APs and received an A in each too, your GPA will be ((34)+(35))/6 = 4.5.

Make sure the additional point for honors/AP/IB courses is aligned with your high school's policy. Some schools don't give additional weight to these courses and in these instances, you should use a 4.0 based scale even for these rigorous courses.

Bear in mind, UIowa will also consider the rigor of your courses while reviewing your application. So, a B in an AP course usually is viewed more favorably than an A in a less challenging course. But, colleges like your GPA to be as high as possible so try to balance rigor with good grades.

Note: This a general way to calculate GPA and the specifics might slightly vary based on your high school's policies. Make sure to verify this with your guidance counselor if you're uncertain.
