Harvard tuition for an out-of-state student?

I'm from the Midwest, and I've been dreaming of studying at Harvard. I'm aware it's a private institution and doesn't have in-state or out-of-state tuition differences, but how much should I be anticipating to pay in tuition? Also, do they offer financial aid or scholarships that are based on merit or need?

Harvard University, being a private institution, does not have different tuition rates for in-state or out-of-state students. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the cost of tuition was about $56,550.

However, the total cost of attendance, which includes room, board, fees, and personal expenses, is estimated to be around $82,866. Please note these figures can vary slightly each year.

Harvard also has a robust financial aid program. In fact, more than half of Harvard students receive need-based scholarship aid. This aid comes directly from Harvard, not the federal government. The precise amount of aid a student receives is based on their family's financial situation.

To give you an idea, at Harvard, families with an income of less than $85,000 per year are expected to make no contribution to the cost of attendance. Moreover, families earning between $85,000 and $150,000 per year only pay between 0% and 10% of their income.

In terms of merit-based aid, it's important to understand that Harvard, like most Ivy League schools, does not offer merit scholarships. All financial aid is need-based.

To get an estimate of the amount you'll need to pay, I'd recommend using Harvard's Net Price Calculator service (https://college.harvard.edu/financial-aid/net-price-calculator), which can provide you with a tailored estimated financial aid package based on your family's financial situation.
