What does a military high school curriculum typically look like?

Hello everyone, I'm junior in regular high school, but recently had the thought of transferring to a military high school. Can anyone shed some light on what a typical curriculum in a military high school would look like? How much of it is academics vs military training? Thanks in advance.

Good question! The curriculum at a military high school usually strives to balance academics with military training. The academic portion typically mirror that of traditional high schools, including core subjects such as math, science, English, social studies, along with electives.

However, what makes the military school different is the addition of the military training component. The extent of this military component can vary, but often includes elements such as JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps), physical training, leadership development, marching drills, and lessons on military history and values.

It's also worth noting that military high schools often have a structured environment and emphasize discipline, so you might find the day-to-day routine more regimented than in a traditional school. That could involve required uniforms, scheduled activities, and strict adherence to codes of conduct.

Keep in mind, just like any academic decision, it's crucial to consider your own goals and interests. If you have a strong interest in military service or find value in a disciplined, structured environment, a military high school could be a great fit. Alternatively, if you prefer a more traditional academic environment with fewer restrictions, a regular high school might be a better fit for you. It's all about your personal preference and future aspirations.
