Does the military need an accredited high school diploma?

Hey y'all, I'm in a bit of a tricky situation here. Because of some family troubles, I've been homeschooled and I'm not sure if my high school diploma will be accredited. So I wanted to ask, does the military require an accredited high school diploma, or is there some leniency there? Any answer helps, thanks in advance!

The military indeed requires an accredited high school diploma for enlistment. In the eyes of the military, an accredited diploma distinguishes a structured, widely accepted education from a lesser-known, perhaps more informal homeschool curriculum. Not all homeschooling programs are seen as equal, and this factors into their recruitment practices.

However, there is some flexibility. If you do not have an accredited high school diploma, there's the option of obtaining a General Education Development (GED) diploma. The military typically regards a GED as an equivalent qualifier for enlistment, although in some branches, enlistees with a GED may face certain restrictions or additional requirements compared to those with a high school diploma.

Make sure to check the specific requirements of the branch you're considering as they may slightly differ. The recruiters at your local recruiting office might have helpful resources and can directly provide you with detailed information on what educational qualifications they are looking for.
