What resources does the military offer for high school students?

Hey guys, new to this sub-reddit. Does the military offer any resources for high school students considering it as an option after graduation? Like, scholarships, internships, or something? Looking for any kind of information before I make my decision. Thanks!

Hello! Several branches of the military do indeed offer resources that might be of interest to you as a high school student.

The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines all offer the ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) scholarships. These scholarships can cover full tuition, fees, and provide an allowance for books and living expenses. You're eligible to apply for these scholarships during high school. After college, in exchange for having the costs of your education covered, you'll serve in the military for a period of time.

The United States military academies, such as the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), and the U.S. Air Force Academy, provide full four-year scholarships to accepted students. In return, cadets will serve in the military upon graduation.

There are also programs like The National Guard’s Split Training Program allows you to attend Basic Training the summer after your junior year and return to finish your senior year of high school. After that, you would then attend your job training or college while simultaneously serving in the Guard.

If you're interested in STEM fields, you may want to research the opportunities available through the SMART (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) Scholarship, sponsored by the Department of Defense. It covers full tuition, provides a stipend, and offers paid summer internships, but a post-graduation commitment with the DoD is required.

If you're seriously considering a military path, you may want to schedule a meeting with a local recruiter from the branch you're thinking about. They can provide you with detailed information and help you navigate the various opportunities available.

Remember, the commitment to serve in the military is a significant one, so it's important to explore all of your options and make an informed decision. Good luck!
