Is joining the military right after high school a viable option in Canada?

Hello all, I'm a junior from Canada weighing my options for life after graduation. Has anyone here gone the military path right after high school in Canada? What was your experience like?

Absolutely, joining the military right after high school is a very viable option in Canada. The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) offer various entry programs for individuals straight out of high school. For starters, you could consider the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP), which combines military training with university education. If accepted, the CAF pays for your tuition, books, and academic equipment. You'll also receive a salary while studying.

If you want to get into the field right away, you could consider the Non-Commissioned Member Subsidized Training and Education Program (NCM-STEP). Under this program, you'll start your basic military qualification and then move on to occupation-specific training.

As for the experience, it varies greatly from person to person. The training is challenging, but many find it rewarding. You'll have the chance to learn a variety of skills, both military and non-military, which can transfer into civilian life. You'll also make close connections with other service members, as you're often living, working, and training together.

Keep in mind that serving in the military is a significant commitment and also involves accepting inherent risks. Therefore, it's important to conduct thorough research and perhaps connect with current or former service members to ask questions and get first-hand information. Hope this helps!
