Can Middle Schoolers Take AP Exams?

Hello! My little brother in middle school is super into history and quite advanced for his age. Can middle schoolers take AP exams if they feel ready, or is it just a high school thing?

Hi there! Absolutely, middle schoolers can take AP exams if they feel prepared for the challenge. The College Board doesn't have age restrictions on who can take AP exams, so as long as your brother is comfortable with the material and you can find a school willing to administer the exam to him, he can definitely give it a shot! It'll all come down to how prepared he feels and finding a testing site. Warm tip: make sure the school he registers with sends his scores to the high school he'll attend, so they can be added to his academic record when it comes time to apply to colleges. For instance, I had a student who took an AP exam in 8th grade, and their high school incorporated the score into their transcript when they enrolled, making it a valuable part of their college applications years later. Let's encourage your brother's passion for history – this could be an excellent opportunity for him!
