Question about the Marines and high school

Hi y'all. I've been thinking about the Marines a lot recently, particularly about joining after high school. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with it? Also, I'm heavily involved in music at my school, would that be something I could continue in the marines or is it a whole different world?

Joining the Marines is certainly a commendable path and comes with its specific set of benefits and challenges.

Firstly, it could offer you a strong sense of discipline, teamwork, and responsibility. It also provides various benefits such as educational assistance, healthcare, and housing, among others. It's essential to remember that this path also comes with significant physical demands and a high level of commitment.

As for continuing your music interests, yes, the Marines do have their own bands. These bands perform at several military and civilian functions. Each Marine band includes sections for brass, woodwinds, and percussion. If you're interested in this route, it might be beneficial to research Marine Corps Musician Enlistment Option Program (MEOP).

Still, remember that serving in the military is a considerable commitment, and being a musician within the military isn't necessarily the same as being a civilian musician. While you're playing music, you are still a Marine, with the responsibilities and commitments that come with that status. You should also bear in mind that the primary objective of being in the military is to serve and protect, and music, while valued, is secondary to that goal.

Before making any decision, it can be helpful to speak to a recruiter or someone else who’s served in the military, maybe even specifically in the Marine Corps Band if you're able. They can give you a clear picture and help you understand what life in the Marines might entail.

I hope this provides you with some perspective. It's all about weighing your options and considering what will serve your long-term goals, interests, and development in the best way.
