How 'big' is the University of Washington?

Hello peeps! I've been eyeing the University of Washington for a while now, but I have some concerns about the campus size and population. How big is the campus and how many students are there generally? I'm looking for a school with a solid social scene but not so large that I'd get lost in the crowd.

The University of Washington (UW) is one of the larger universities in the United States. Its main campus in Seattle spans over 703 acres. As you can imagine, this results in a pretty sweeping and diverse setting, with a variety of buildings, recreational facilities, green spaces, and so on.

In terms of student population, it's sizable as well. The university generally has over 46,000 students, including both undergraduate and graduate students, with undergraduate students making up about 70% of the total population.

UW does offer a vibrant social scene with various clubs, student organizations, Greek life, and sports, to make up for its size. Being in Seattle also offers plenty of off-campus activities. However, the large campus and student body size also mean that it might initially feel overwhelming. Many students find seclusion in smaller academic communities like their chosen major, resident halls, or clubs and organizations.

Remember, the bigness of a campus can be both a strength and a challenge—it brings diversity and myriad opportunities, but it might also require more initiative from you to find and create a more personalized experience. In the end, it's all about what you want from your college experience.
