Jacksonville Military High Schools: Any suggestions?

Hey guys, I live in Jacksonville, Florida and I am considering attending a military high school. Has anyone been in a similar situation and care to share their experiences?

Your interest in military schools is understandable as they provide a structured educational environment that can prepare you for various career paths within and outside the military. Jacksonville has a bevy of options when it comes to choosing military-style schools, but there are some aspects you may want to consider.

Firstly, understanding the nature of these schools is crucial. Military schools usually have a heavy focus on discipline, structure, and leadership development. This does not necessarily mean that a career in the military is the only path upon graduation, but they certainly provide a strong foundation if you do intend to serve in the armed forces.

Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology is one such institution right in Jacksonville. They offer an Army JROTC program that gives students a taste of military routine and discipline, while also providing a robust academic curriculum. Their program is committed to teaching leadership and citizenship, along with regular high school education.

Another option worth exploring is St. John's Northwestern Military Academy, located in Delafield, Wisconsin. Many students have attended this boarding school from Jacksonville due to its nationally recognized military program and its dedication to character and leadership development. The school effectively uses its military-styled environment to develop young men who are fully prepared for college and life beyond that.

In terms of decision-making, it may be beneficial to arrange visits to both the schools of interest and discuss with your parents the direction you'd like your high school education to take. Keep in mind, the discipline and structure at a military school require substantial commitment.

Remember to evaluate not just the military aspect but also the academic curriculum, school culture, available extracurriculars, and support services. You should also factor in how comfortable you are with the rigor and discipline tied to a military high school, as well as what your larger academic and career goals are.
