Any Info on University of Wisconsin Out-of-State Tuition?

Hi folks, I'm from out-of-state and considering University of Wisconsin. Can someone clue me in on the out-of-state tuition? Also, are there any scholarships or financial aids for non-residents? Thanks for any help!

Hello, happy to help with some information!

As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the out-of-state tuition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is approximately $42,104 per year. Please keep in mind that this is just the tuition fee, and does not include other costs such as room and board, books, and personal expenses. When you factor in those elements, the total cost of attendance for an out-of-state student can rise to about $61,106 each year. Of course, these are rough figures and can vary year to year, so I encourage you to check the University of Wisconsin's official website for the most accurate and updated information.

As far as scholarships and financial aid go, the University of Wisconsin-Madison does offer some opportunities for out-of-state students to help offset the cost of tuition. Examples include the Chancellor's and Powers-Knapp Scholarships, both of which are available to out-of-state students, though they are quite competitive.

Regarding financial aid, potentially the most significant source would be federal student aid, for which you would need to submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Keep in mind that the aid can comprise both grants (which don't need to be repaid) and loans (which do).

Another great source of financial assistance is the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) Scholarship, which is typically awarded to out-of-state students on the basis of merit, community service, and leadership.

On the whole, navigating tuition and financial aid can be a complex process, but I hope this gives you some direction. Be sure to reach out to the school's financial aid office for more personalized assistance. They'll be best equipped to guide you through your options. Good luck!
