College options in Fairfax, VA?

Yo! I'm a rising junior looking at colleges. I live in Fairfax, VA and I want to stay relatively close to home. Any fellow Virginians out there with suggestions for colleges in and around my area?

Absolutely, Fairfax is lucky to be home to quite a few colleges and universities and it's not too far from several others.

Right in Fairfax, you have George Mason University. It's a large public school that's well-regarded in many areas, particularly for its programs in economics and law.

Not too far away in Arlington, VA, there's Marymount University which is a smaller private university known for its nursing and physical therapy programs, amongst others.

A bit further out, other respected colleges include the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, and James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg. They each are highly respected in a variety of fields, and offer different campus vibes, with UVA and William & Mary having historic charm, while schools like Virginia Tech and James Madison are in more rural areas and have more modern campuses.

You might also want to consider the University of Richmond, a top-tier liberal arts college located in a suburban area of Richmond, VA.

In the end, each school is unique with its programs, university culture, student life, and the opportunities it offers, so be sure to check out what aligns with your academic and personal goals!
