MIT Tuition and other Fees?

Hey guys, I'm crazy about MIT, but I also know it's an investment. Can anyone clarify for me about the current tuition and any hidden fees that might not be immediately obvious from their website? Would be much appreciated!

Absolutely, happy to clarify some of that information for you. For the 2024-2025 academic year, tuition at MIT is $61,990. Beyond this, fees you’ll likely encounter include:

1. Student Life Fee: $406

2. Housing and dining can cost around $20,280, depending on the housing and meal plan selected.

3. Books, supplies, and personal expenses can vary by student, but MIT estimates around $3,284 for these additional costs.

This brings the total cost of attendance to about $85960.

Also, keep in mind that these are "gross costs" - meaning, this is the price before any financial aid is applied. MIT is committed to meeting the demonstrated need of all admitted students, so if your family income is below $90,000, you're typically expected to pay nothing towards tuition.

For most students, applying for financial aid will significantly reduce these costs. Each family’s financial situation is different and the final financially-aid package offered can greatly impact the final tuition cost. As a result, I recommend using the MIT Net Price Calculator (https://mitadmissions.org/afford/cost-aid-basics/financial-aid-calculators/) to get an estimate of what you may owe each year, based on your family's financial circumstances. I hope this helps!
