Does the PSAT score really matter for anything?

Okay, so I’ve taken the PSAT, and I’m stressing out about my score. Do these scores actually count for anything significant outside of National Merit Scholarship considerations?

It's completely normal to feel stressed about test scores, but I want to reassure you that the PSAT serves a few purposes beyond the National Merit Scholarship Program. While it's true that the main draw of the PSAT is its role in determining eligibility for National Merit distinctions and scholarships, the scores can also provide valuable feedback. They'll give you a sense of where you stand in preparation for the SAT. Scores from the PSAT can highlight your strengths and the areas you need to focus on for the actual SAT or ACT. Additionally, by taking the PSAT, you're also automatically entered into the Student Search Service, through which colleges may send you information. This can be particularly useful if you're still exploring which colleges might be a good fit for you. Remember, a single test won't define your college admissions journey, so use your PSAT score as a tool for personal academic growth.
