Ohio University Out-of-State Tuition - What's the Deal?

Hey guys, I've been looking at Ohio University, and it seems like a solid fit for me, but I'm an out-of-state resident. I heard that tuition can be pretty hefty for those not from Ohio. Does anyone know how much more out-of-state students typically have to pay? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi there! Indeed, out-of-state tuition tends to be higher than in-state tuition at public universities. Ohio University is no exception. In the 2024-2025 school year, the total cost of attendance for in-state students is $32,204, while for out-of-state students the total cost of attendance is approximately $42,884, making the latter's fees $10,680 higher.

This significant disparity in tuition fees is common across many public universities. The additional funds from out-of-state students often help offset the costs of maintaining the campus and services.

What you can do is to actively check for and apply to various scholarships that Ohio University offers to out-of-state students. There are some that significantly reduce the tuition gap between in-state and out-of-state students. Furthermore, if you have an outstanding academic record or commendable ACT/SAT scores, you might qualify for merit-based scholarships to help lower the costs.

You should also definitely use Ohio University's net price calculator to get an estimate of how much attending would cost based on your family's financial situation.

Don't forget to factor in other costs like room and board, books, and personal expenses. Always have a clear picture of the total costs before making a decision. Good luck with your college search!
