How to tactfully handle job interview scheduling around military deployment?

I'm currently in the process of enlisting, but I also have a job interview lined up soon. What if I got deployed before the interview date? Has anybody else navigated job interviews while deploying in the military? What advice can you give me? Thanks a ton!

Being in the military along with grappling with the civilian job market is not an easy task, and it certainly requires skillful handling. When it comes to scheduling job interviews around military deployment, the most important factor is communication. It's essential to explain your situation openly to the hiring managers.

When you get the job interview details, try to figure out how close it is to your deployment date. If it's going to overlap or cut pretty close, you might want to inform the company immediately. You could say something like, "I'm eager to interview for this role but I am currently enlisted and there is a possibility that I might be deployed around the time of our interview. Could we arrange a different time or would it be possible to conduct the interview remotely?"

Many organizations appreciate the discipline, leadership, and work ethic often displayed by service members and are often willing to try to accommodate their schedules. Keep them in the loop about your status. If you end up getting deployed before the interview, offer to do the interview via Skype or another video call platform at a time that works for both parties if this is possible given your situation.

Remember, honesty really is the best policy in such situations. Good luck with your enlistment and job search!
