Question about URI's Student Population

Hi everyone, just a quick question. Can anyone tell me about the University of Rhode Island's student population? Like, how big/diverse is it and what's the campus culture like with such a population?

Sure, happy to share some information about the University of Rhode Island's (URI) student population!

As of recent records, the University of Rhode Island has a total undergraduate population of about 16,500 students. This is a moderately-sized university, not too big and not too small, which strikes a good balance for many students.

Regarding diversity, it's definitely improving, but there's still some way to go. As per recent statistics, the racial and ethnic distribution at URI is about 74% White, 11% Hispanic/Latinx, 5% Black, 4% Asian, and the rest being either two or more races, international, or unreported.

As for campus culture, from what I understand, URI is often characterized by an active and engaged student body. With over 120 student clubs and organizations ranging from academics, media, culture, service, and sports, there's generally something for everyone. There's also a significant emphasis on athletics, given the university's participation in the NCAA Division I. You'll often find students showing their school spirit during basketball games or other athletic meets.

Yet, the competitiveness does not overpower the cooperation and camaraderie that the students share. Many students often describe a close-knit community feel despite the size of the student body.

That said, every college experience can vary drastically, and the best way to get a sense of whether a school's culture is a match for you is by speaking with current students or alumni, or visiting, if possible. A virtual tour or attending any available online sessions could also be useful if you can't visit in person.

Here's to you finding the perfect university atmosphere for your tastes and interests!
